On November 17, 2022, a meeting of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan with experts from the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) took place via videoconference. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the project Digitalization of the TIR procedure (International Road Transport) in the transport corridors of Central Asia to strengthen regional cooperation and trade.

In continuation of the meeting, this project was presented, which is being implemented at the initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is scheduled for the period from September 2022 to December 2023. Also, the participants of the meeting discussed issues of possible further cooperation.

During the discussion, representatives of the customs service shared the current status of the implementation of TIR EPD in Turkmenistan and existing initiatives in this area. The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, in cooperation with the International Road Transport Union (IRU), has implemented the TIR-EPD system, which provides online preliminary information about goods and vehicles sent to Turkmenistan and transiting through the territory of Turkmenistan. This system is integrated into the internal customs transit system of the automated customs data processing system. The TIR-EPD system allows carriers to declare goods and vehicles to customs authorities without the services of customs brokers when importing and transiting through the customs territory of Turkmenistan.
